Conference A .U .R . ARCHITECTURE UTOPIA REALISM
International scientific conference ARCHITECTURE UTOPIA REALISM is a two-day event , organized by the University of Belgrade, Faculty of Architecture. Held at the Amphitheatre of the faculty, on 3rd and 4thOctober 2013, the conference will host renowned scholars reflecting on a number of concepts and issues, such as utopianism, real, realism, social realism, socialist realism, neo-realism, utopian realism, new realism and the like.
Part of the Events Programme of the faculty for the academic year 2013-2014, the conference is accompanied by the exhibition IVAN LEONIDOV: PROJECTS, organized by the University of Belgrade, Faculty of Architecture in partnership with the Schusev State Museum of Architecture, from Moscow. Showing the work of one of the most important figures of the Soviet Avant-garde, Ivan Leonidov, the exhibition will be held at the Exhibition Hall of Faculty of Architecture, from 3rd to 24th October 2013. Exhibition opening is scheduled for 3rd October, at 19:00.

The Faculty of Architecture University of Belgrade and the Board of Ranko Radović Award, Association of Applied Arts Artists and Designers of Serbia (ULUPUDS), wishing to revive and continue the efforts of professor Radović for the Belgrade school of Architecture to organize scientific meetings about history and theory of architecture, is launching an international conference on ARCHITECTURE AND IDEOLOGY.
This conference is the third in a row, after the ARHITECTURE AND HISTORY (1990) and the ARHITECTURE AND TECHNOLOGY (1991) ones. Both gatherings were complemented by thematic issues of the Journal named De re Aedificatoria as an homage to Alberti.
IN MEMORIAM: Dr Mihailo Čanak, dipl. ing. arh. (1932-2014)
With regret we convey the news of the death of our esteemed colleague and mentor, the architect Dr Mihailo Čanak.
He participated, both independently and as a co-author, in a series of architectural competitions and he authored a number of awarded designs. Thousands of families live in the flats, which he designed and standardized. He was a central figure in the formation of the Housing Centre of the IMS Institute, which developed the basic methodological and technical settings of habitology research in former Yugoslavia. He is the author of many scientific studies in the field of residential architecture and standardization for the purposes of housing construction.
He was one of the protagonists, and among the most prolific authors of “Belgrade school of residence”. Since 1983, he led one of the first programs of informal education in architecture in Serbia, preparatory classes for the entrance examination at the Faculty of Architecture, which was registered in 1991 as the design office “ARD – Architectural Design & Research”. This program trained thirty generations of students, “mice” as he used to call them. He was a member of the Academy of Architecture of Serbia since 2006.
He received the Lifetime Achievement Award, awarded by the Association of Architects of Serbia in 2005.
