Digitization of the professional journals and the development of Virtual library began in 2014 with the digitization of the magazine “Arhitektura urbanizam”. In 2014 our researchers realized that not a single library in Serbia has all the issues of this important magazine. The project extended to digitization of the magazine “Urbanizam Beograda” to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the establishment of the Belgrade Urban Planning Institute. Through the communication with membership and the wider audience, it became evident that there is the need to create a digital database of professional literature and periodicals, which exists but is exclusively in analogue format and accessible to a limited circle of researchers. The project is the first step towards the creation of digital libraries of rare professional literature on the modern movement in architecture in Serbia, whose goal is to enchance the access to these publications to all the citizens and researchers, both in Serbia and worldwide.
The project is supported by the Ministry of Culture and Information of the Republic of Serbia and the Chamber of Engineers of Serbia, and is being implemented in cooperation with the Association of Belgrade Architects and Grupa arhitekata professional association, the Institute for Architecture and Urban and Spatial Planning of Serbia, the Museum of Science and Technology and the Belgrade Urban Planning Institute.
